Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu

Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1982. In 2005 Gümrükçüoğlu graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul Kültür University, ranking second in the faculty. In 2007 Gümrükçüoğlu completed a master’s degree in the Department of Private Law at the same university’s Institute of Social Sciences, and in 2012 was awarded a doctorate in Private Law (Labour and Social Security Law), again at Istanbul Kültür University. Gümrükçüoğlu became an associate professor in 2018 and was subsequently promoted to full professor. Gümrükçüoğlu’s academic career began in 2006 with a post as research assistant at the Faculty of Law of Istanbul Kültür University, followed by service as a faculty member there from 2012 to 2017. Gümrükçüoğlu, who has also taught at Sabancı University, has continued academic work since 2017 as a faculty member in the Department of Labour and Social Security Law, Division of Private Law, Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University. Gümrükçüoğlu has served as principal investigator on TÜBİTAK- and BAP-funded projects and as an expert on international projects, has contributed to the work of the drafting commissions for the Code of Civil Procedure and the mediation legislation, and is actively engaged in dispute resolution, specialist mediation and arbitration.

Prof. Dr. Ali Yeşilırmak

Ibn Haldun University

Prof. Dr. Ali Yeşilırmak graduated from the Faculty of Law at Dokuz Eylül University in 1990. Yeşilırmak completed a master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin in the United States in 1996, and received a doctorate in 2004 from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London, in England, with a thesis in the field of international arbitration. Having concentrated throughout an academic career on civil procedure and enforcement-bankruptcy law, alternative dispute resolution and international arbitration, Yeşilırmak attained the titles of associate professor and professor. Yeşilırmak is currently a faculty member in the Department of Civil Procedure and Enforcement-Bankruptcy Law at the Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University, and a visiting professor at the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London. Yeşilırmak served on the drafting commissions for the Code of Civil Procedure, the Law on Mediation in Civil Disputes and the Law on the Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC), and has acted as an arbitrator and as a court member at the ISTAC and ITO arbitration centres.

Prof. Dr. Abbas Türnüklü

Prof. Dr. Abbas Türnüklü graduated from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Letters, Ege University, in 1992. Türnüklü completed a master’s degree in the Department of Psychometrics at Ege University’s Institute of Social Sciences in 1995, and in 1999 received a doctorate from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom with a thesis entitled “Classroom Management in Turkish and English Primary Classrooms”. Türnüklü became an associate professor in 2005 and a professor in 2011. At Dokuz Eylül University, Türnüklü has served as dean, head of department and director of the Conflict Resolution Research and Application Centre. Türnüklü is currently a faculty member in the Department of Applied Psychology, Division of Psychology, Faculty of Letters, Dokuz Eylül University. Türnüklü has produced numerous national and international scientific publications, as well as BAP-funded and other research projects, in the fields of conflict resolution, peer mediation, negotiation and intergroup contact.

Doç. Dr. Sezercan Bektaş

Sakarya University

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezercan Bektaş was born in Kayseri in 1983. Bektaş graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 2005. In 2009 Bektaş completed a master’s degree in the Department of Private International Law with a thesis entitled “Drafting Contracts in International Trade”, and in 2016 was awarded a doctorate with a thesis entitled “Exploitation of the International Seabed and the International Seabed Authority”. Bektaş became an associate professor in public international law in 2024. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bektaş’s academic career began in 2010 with a post as academic specialist at the Rectorate of Ankara University; in the same year Bektaş took up a post as Disciplinary Specialist in the Office of Legal Counsel of the Council of Higher Education. From 2012 to 2018 Bektaş worked as a lecturer at Gazi University, and since 2018 has been a faculty member in the Department of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Sakarya University. Bektaş is also a lawyer, a specialist mediator and an arbitrator.

Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Gülnihal Ahter Yakacak

Assistant Professor Dr. Gülnihal Ahter Yakacak graduated from the Faculty of Law at Selçuk University in 2010. Yakacak completed master’s and doctoral studies in public law, obtaining the title of doctor. Yakacak serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Constitutional Law, Division of Public Law, Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University. Yakacak’s principal research interests include constitutional law, constitutional adjudication, fundamental rights and freedoms, human rights law and judicial independence.

Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Ömer Faruk Kafalı

Ibn Haldun University

Assistant Professor Dr. Ömer Faruk Kafalı graduated with honours from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul Şehir University in 2016. Kafalı completed a master’s degree at the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul Şehir University with a thesis entitled “Arbitral Decisions and Final Awards in Arbitration”. Kafalı received a doctorate in 2024 with a thesis on party-appointed experts in international arbitration. Having begun an academic career as a research assistant between 2017 and 2019, Kafalı has continued it since 2019 in the Department of Civil Procedure and Enforcement-Bankruptcy Law at the Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University, where Kafalı currently works as an assistant professor. Kafalı has been a researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Luxembourg, is a member of CIArb and has published widely on civil procedure, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

Following undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Akın Bulut completed a doctorate in Educational Technologies at Bahçeşehir University. Bulut serves as an assistant professor and head of department at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Ibn Haldun University. Bulut is also the founder and director of the university’s Artificial Intelligence Innovative Learning and Teaching Coordination Office. Bulut’s principal areas of work include educational technologies, digital learning environments, the integration of artificial intelligence into education, and distance education.

Assistant Professor Dr. Cansu Korkmaz graduated from the Faculty of Law at Selçuk University in 2011. In 2012 Korkmaz took up a post as a research assistant in the Department of Civil Procedure and Enforcement-Bankruptcy Law at the Faculty of Law, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. Korkmaz completed a master’s degree in 2015 with a thesis entitled “Appellate Remedies in Labour Proceedings” and a doctorate in 2022 with a thesis entitled “Attachment and Sale of Industrial Property Rights”, both at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. Supported by TÜBİTAK fellowships, Korkmaz carried out doctoral and postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Law of Trier University and also taught courses on Turkish law there. Since 2023 Korkmaz has served as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Procedure and Enforcement-Bankruptcy Law at the Faculty of Law, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, and also directs the university’s International Arbitration Research and Application Centre. Korkmaz also delivers training courses on specialist mediation and for concordat commissioners.

Research Assistant Hüseyin Yağızhan Kol completed undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University, and concurrently the double major programme in Economics (taught in English), graduating in 2023. Kol is continuing postgraduate studies at Ibn Haldun University. Since 2023 Kol has pursued academic work as a research assistant in the Department of Civil Procedure and Enforcement-Bankruptcy Law, Division of Private Law, Faculty of Law, Ibn Haldun University. Kol’s research focuses on arbitration law, the enforcement and recognition of arbitral awards, and alternative dispute resolution.
